Thanks for the advice. It brought tears to my eyes because I want to do so much more than that right now but realize it would be like throwing pearls to swine much of the time right now. My husband definitely parents MUCH differently than me, and I find myself constantly wanting to add detail to what he does. Lord do I need self control! The simplicity of what you advise - feed them well & tire them out - really helps. Actually, it probably gives me more time to do other things when I am doing less of what they probably consider nagging. Most importantly, thank you for the prayers.

Kari,

I will pray for you! I also encourage you to go to your husband! I never appreciated my husband as much as when I couldn't "handle" my teen boys and had to turn the reins over to him. Men can more matter-of-factly deal with the "issues." They will parent those boys much differently than we will and that's o.k.

It is very hard for a mom to transition from nurturing her younger children to parenting the older ones because nurturing is part of who we are.

I had to learn to smile and say, "No" and stay strong in spite of the moods of my teens. I am still learning!

It is a hard time of life for which there is little preparation or help.

Here's one more piece of advice; teen boys need to be WORN OUT. Keep them in sports or keep them doing physical work! A boy that drags in physically exhausted at the end of the day will be much less inclined to sass his mom and stomp out of the room!

Tire them out, let them sleep deeply and feed them well!

Oh "Junior High" and "Boys"..those two combined together are quite the challenge, aren't they?

I'll write a post about raising boys one of these days (not that I am on the other side of raising them, yet, but that I know the deep depths of discouragement mothers can experience). Just remember, you are raising future MEN so the challenge is worth it!

Perhaps God threw in the funny hair at the last minute so the rest of the world would not be too intimidated by all those good looks! And lets call it "hair with character" shall we?

I'm not sure if you can learn very much from us, Meghan, but I must say that we have been impressed by your willingness to go to others for advice and counsel. God will bless that!

"Sanctified reality"...I like that! I think I will borrow that!

And we have been so blessed by you and yours as well, Terri. I failed to mention in the post that, not only does your entire family look like Vogue models, but they are procreating and populating the earth with mini Vogue models! Tell them to keep on taking dominion!
